Have you ever fallen for the lie that your married life would be easier if your husband was…different?

Maybe not quite so much the way he is?

And just maybe more like you?

I struggled with this early in my marriage. To clarify, I don’t remember ever actually thinking, “I wish he was more like me.” But the differences grated on my nerves just the same.

Interestingly, the things that attracted me to him as a boyfriend are the very things that I found irritating in my husband.

It didn’t take too many years for me to recognize that God was giving me a choice: I could continue feeling frustrated about my differences with my husband, or I could choose to look for the silver lining and be thankful.

It’s now been almost sixteen years since we said “I do.”

We still have our differences.

And I’m so glad.

Because his people-and-fun-loving personality brings me out of my introverted shell.

My hopeful optimism boosts his spirits when he’s tempted to worry.

His firmness balances my laxness…and vice versa.

Yes, our differences make us complementary. But there’s an even greater reason why God brings husbands and wives together.

In today’s featured post, Tehila from Women Abiding encourages us to consider God’s true purpose for our marriages, and how our differences help accomplish that purpose.

Hi Jen! Thanks so much for hosting and sharing about how you learned that the differences between you and hubby are for the best – if you choose to look at them that way. That’s a reminder we all need. Hope you had a fabulous Mother’s Day! Have a blessed week.
