Do you remember the last time you offered a prayer of praise? Perhaps it’s been a while, but the Bible teaches us that it’s good to lift prayers of praise to God.
It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to Your name, O Most High. (Psalm 92:1)
Apart from His gifts – which are bountiful – God is worthy of our praise simply for who He is.
And it is good for us to acknowledge it.
It is good to praise Him when we feel like it.
And it is good to praise Him when we don’t.
It is good to lift prayers of praise to the Lord!
The Bible offers much guidance in lifting prayers of praise to God. So let’s spend some time together praying the Scriptures, offering the Lord a prayer of praise!
10 Prayers of Praise to God
1.)Praise God that He is love (I John 4:7-8), and that because of Jesus’ sacrifice you know what love looks like (I John 3:16).
2.)Praise God that He is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and that He is your solid Rock, your Fortress, your Rescuer, your Shield, your salvation’s strength, and your place of safety (Psalm 18:2).
3.)Praise the Lord for being the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable (Isaiah 40:28). His ways are higher than your ways, and His thoughts higher than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:9).
4.)Praise the God whose way is perfect. Praise Him that His Word proves true and that He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him (Psalm 18:30).
5.)Praise God for His holiness. “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!” (Isaiah 6:3).
6.)Praise the Lord, who is like no other, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression. Praise Him for His mercy – He does not retain his anger forever, because He delights in steadfast love. Praise Him for His compassion and for His forgiveness. “He will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:18-19).
7.)Praise the Lord, “a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty.” (Exodus 34:6-7)
8.)Praise God, whose might is like no other, and whose faithfulness surrounds Him. Praise Him that righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne, and that steadfast love and faithfulness go before Him (Psalm 89:8,14).
9.)Praise God that with Him, nothing is impossible (Mark 10:27). “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You” (Jeremiah 32:17).
10.)Offer this prayer of praise to the Lord, beckoning all of creation to give Him the praise due His name:
Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
praise Him in the heights!
Praise Him, all His angels;
praise Him, all His hosts!
Praise Him, sun and moon,
praise Him, all you shining stars!
Praise Him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens!
Let them praise the name of the Lord!
For He commanded and they were created.
And He established them forever and ever;
He gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy wind fulfilling His word!
Mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars!
Beasts and all livestock,
creeping things and flying birds!
Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for His name alone is exalted;
His majesty is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for His people,
praise for all His saints,
for the people of Israel who are near to Him.
Praise the Lord! (Psalm 148)
Father, I thank You today for the gift of praise. Thank you for revealing Yourself to me through Your Word, by Your Spirit, and in Your creation, that I might stand in awe of You.
You alone are worthy of praise and glory and honor, for You have created all things, that in all things You might be preeminent.
For every request that I offer, every supplication that I raise, and every intercession I make, let me never neglect to render the praise You are due. In the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
