Is there ever a time when we don’t need to be reminded of God’s presence?
I need to remember His presence when I’m lonely.
When I’m afraid.
When I’m angry.
Or confused.
I need to remember His presence when I’m rejoicing.
When I’m successful.
And when I’ve fallen.
Oh, dear friend, there is no aspect of life that isn’t enriched by our awareness of God’s presence.
God has much to say in His Word about His presence. And I sort of suspect that must mean His presence with us is important to Him, too.
Cheer in His Presence
“You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11
Courage in His Presence
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Comfort in His Presence
“He restores my soul. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:3-4
Confidence in His Presence
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
Community in His Presence
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Matthew 18:20
Constancy in His Presence
“Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence?” Psalm 139:7
Contentment in His Presence
“But You have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in Your presence forever.” Psalm 41:12
Want to Learn More About God’s Presence?
Brother Lawrence offers profound insight in his little book, The Practice of the Presence of God. He thoroughly considers this matter of developing a constant and conscious awareness of God’s presence.
I don’t know about you, but I have much to learn from a man who sensed God’s presence as keenly when he was washing dishes as when he was worshiping in a grand cathedral.
May you be drawn into a deeper awareness of God’s presence today!
