Hello, hello! It’s Day 4 of our prayer challenge, and I’m thrilled to have you joining me.
Every single day, Christians face a choice: Am I going to live for myself today, or for my Savior?
Some days, things run smoothly and life is easy (or at least easier than usual) and obedience comes quick.
But other days…
well, in the words of my pastor, “Some days I wake up, and as soon as I open my eyes, I feel like Satan is sitting on my face.”
Have you ever had a day like that?
Yeah, me too.
I just bet your friend has, as well, don’t you think?
Will you join me in praying the Scriptures for your friend to have a heart surrendered to the Lord? (And maybe pray the same thing for yourself. I know I will.)
Prayers That Your Friend Would Live Surrendered to God
- Acknowledge to God that your friend (like all of mankind) is unable to discern the errors of their own heart. Ask Him to reveal secret faults that they cannot see, and to convict them of sins sins they have committed intentionally. Pray that your friend would be free from the dominion of sinful strongholds in their life, becoming blameless and innocent. Ask God that the words of their mouth and even the very meditations of their heart would be acceptable in the sight of their Rock and Redeemer. (Psalm 19:12-14)
- Thank God for a godly grief that produces repentance leading to salvation. Pray that your friend would walk in repentance, and that they would see the fruits of it in their life: “For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment!” (2 Corinthians 7:9-11)
- Ask God to enable your friend to present their body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is a reasonable act of worship (Romans 12:1). Beg Him to teach your friend what this means and enable them to follow through in the nitty-gritty of everyday life.
- Pray for God’s daily grace on your friend, allowing them to deny themself, take up their cross, and follow Jesus. Acknowledge to Him that whoever wants to save their life at all costs will lose it, but whoever loses their life for Jesus’ sake will save it (Luke 9:23-24). Ask the Lord to help your friend withhold nothing – including her very life – from Him. Pray that they would echo Jesus’ own prayer before His crucifixion: “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Remove this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.” (Mark 14:34-35). Ask Him to show your friend what aspects of God’s will they have been resisting, what “cup” they’ve been refusing.
- Acknowledge to the Lord that all of your friend’s material and non-material blessings are gifts meant to be stewarded well, with the intention of multiplying them for the Master. Ask that the Lord would mold your friend into a faithful servant, and not a worthless one (Matthew 25:14-30).
Dear Heavenly Father, Creator of the heavens and the earth, the skies and the seas, and everything in them, You are worthy of all glory, honor, dominion, and strength. You have every right to call the shots in my life and my friend’s, as well as the rest of the world. I thank You for the peace that comes with accepting that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men. I know unequivocally that I can trust Your infinite goodness, wisdom, and holiness, and I pray that my friend would have the same assurance. Please help my friend to hold their blessings with open hands, not hoarding them for themself, but willing to give them back, to share them, or to use them on behalf of Your glory, as You so lead. It’s in the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, that I pray. Amen.
We’ve laid important groundwork today, because living a surrendered, obedient life before God opens the floodgates of His blessing! And tomorrow, we’ll be asking Him to give our friends JOY. See you later, dear one!
