Hooray, hooray, it’s time to start praying the Scriptures for purity in our hearts, our minds, and our lives!
After today, these posts will be short and sweet because I want to refrain from distracting you from the business of prayer. But today I have a couple of quick “FYI” tidbits.
First, in case you’re curious, the Bible version I’m using for the challenge is the English Standard Version (ESV). If you prefer a different version, by all means, use it! Bible versions are generally a matter of personal preference, and they shouldn’t be a source of division in God’s family, so please feel free to choose whatever version you like.
Second, I won’t mention this again anytime soon, but some of my favorite people are procrastinators, and you just might happen to be one of them. 😉 If you meant to claim your personal purity bundle and haven’t done it yet, now is the perfect time! **One reader called this bundle “pure gold,” and you can get it here for the ridiculously low price of just $10 using code 10PURITY.**
The Praying the Scriptures for Personal Purity journal is part of the bundle, and it was created JUST for the purpose of enhancing this challenge. The Scriptures correlate on each day, and there are spaces for you to write, ponder, and pray the passage listed. I highly recommend using the journal to receive the maximum benefit of the challenge.
Now for today’s passage:
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8)
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving me enough to state so expressly what Your will is: my sanctification. I marvel at Your desire to set me apart for Your purposes, and I pray that You would help me to abstain from sexual immorality. Strengthen me to control my body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like those who do not know You. Help me never to take advantage of another person for my own pleasure, because You haven’t called me for impurity, but in holiness. Impress that truth on my heart, and let me never treat it casually. How I thank You for Your Holy Spirit that You’ve given to me as a Helper in this and in all things! In the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
Don’t rush away! Linger with the Lord for a while. Your journal is a great tool for helping you do that. Click here to head back to the main page tomorrow to find Day 2; in the meantime, I want you to know that I am praying for you.
