“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.”
1 John 3:1-6
Oh, Father, I marvel at the love You have given to me, that I should be called Your child! And because I belong to You, I should be different from those who don’t know You. My life should be marked by Your presence and Your likeness. How I long for the day when I will see You with my eyes and when my battle with sin will finally be finished! Until then, Lord, strengthen me to purify myself as You are pure. Please reveal to me any areas of ongoing sinful practices in my life. Help me not to excuse it or justify it, but to recognize it as rebellion against You. After all, You came in order to take away my sins, and in You there is no sin. Help me to abide in You, and to keep fighting to overcome sin in my life. May I never deny You by harboring sin in my heart. In the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
