“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.”
Matthew 5:27-30
My dear Father, I can’t help but think about how kind You are to warn me about those things that can destroy me. And lust is pretty close to the top of that list. Lord, You don’t just care about acts of immorality. Since You care about my heart, that means You care about the stolen glances, the not-so-innocent flirtations, and the hidden fantasies of my innermost thoughts. Please help me to be sensitive to adultery of the heart; don’t let me be careless just because my sin doesn’t appear to be as bad as someone else’s. I invite Your Spirit to bring a fresh convicting work in my heart, and I pray that You would help me to be ruthless about eliminating anything that would tempt me or distract me from You, my One True Love and the greatest Desire of my heart. In the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
Psst, hey! I just want you to know that you continue to bless me with your steadfastness. Keep praying, dear one! God is honored by your prayers. He hears them, and He will answer.
